I've added a refinement to my modified Gold List Method. Up to now, I've maintained the order of sentences, filling up from the bottom, and copying both the Māori and English versions of the sentences on the same line on the front and rear sides of the sheet. (English first.)
But from this point, I shall randomize the sentences. That will make it necessary for me to think about which sentences match. I'll need to scan more too.
The main activity I'm mainly on during these first two months of te reo - based on the David James's Gold List Method is one that will get my foot in the door. It is one that I would use with any language that uses mainly English letters (so I would consider proceeding with Polish but not with Russian). Thereafter, I shall introduce more 'Krashen-esque' techniques. More about that, then, in month three.
In the meantime, I'll review my gleanings from this video that I looked at in June.
Google Translate works for Maori. That could certainly be useful. And so, the other day I experimented by typing in some English sentences. I figure that simple sentences ought to translate well if I stick to simple grammar and avoid any idiom.
So that the sentences weren’t random, I obtained or adapted them from a book. I used Johann Wyss’s Swiss Family Robinson.
I will copy them out according to my version of David James’s Gold List Method. I will start my daily session in that manner. I feel motivated to do so, and that must be a good thing!
