Day 16. First, we discuss the need for a
very great change, not just a tweak. People write about the greatest change
they’ve seen in their lives. And then they try out the first ‘variation on a
theme’—VOAT. That is: to highlight. Instead of underlining unknown words, the
idea is to highlight everything that you DO know.
I’m doing that regularly with Spanish.
Electronic text highlights nicely. It shows up those passages ready for
subsequent shadowing, sentence collecting or the like.
Last thing yesterday I stumbled across a
French documentary about Jim Morrison in Paris. It had English subtitles.
